Blogs I visit

Here’s a short list of my favourite blogs that I regularly visit. In strict alphabetical order.

There’s no one theme, they include personal blogs, travel, photography, cycling, animals, and anything that I discover that is an enjoyable read and has some good photos. Some of them obviously reflect my Spanish life, and one is written in Spanish (but has plenty of photos).

Many of them are often humorous, occasionally serious, but worth a visit.

The authors come from – as far as I am aware, the UK, Europe, Australia, and North America.

Rather than do a blogroll per se, I thought it would be more helpful to do a list on here with titles and links, and some idea of what the blog is about. Apologies to all authors if you don’t like my summary, you can email me a better one and I may consider changing it.

365 Mas Uno
A photoblog based on a challenge to take a photo every day of the year, the author lives in Spain, and often has an interesting take on the word of the day, and provides some insight into her choice of photo.

Dave Whatt
I’ll use the author’s words, easier that way – “..a grumpy old surrealist artist, musician, postcard maker, bluesman, theatre set designer and debonair man-about-town. My favourite tools are the plectrum and the pencil…” Expect to see something along those lines. Maybe.

DeltaGypsy Studio
An artist’s blog, showing preparation and finished works. I love the images shown on this one.

ELLADEE_PLACES
An Australian blog, with a Sydney-based author who posts about well, Australia really and her trips around her country. Having spent some time living in Sydney and travelling around Aus, it’s obviously got a personal attraction for me. EllaDee also has two other blogs, Words, and Images – the links to all of her blogs are on each one.

EVERDAY PARANOID VISIONS
Gotta be honest here, got this one via Vics Pics blog (qv below). Good photos and I like the somewhat self-deprecating text that accompanies it.

FROMTHEPIGPEN
This is a British blog I discovered in March, with pithy, readable, and eminently sensible posts. Well worth a read.

JB’s Big World
I think this one ticks the animal, photo and travel boxes. Some great photos – mainly of animals on her travels – but also some local scenery, by cat JB’s mom.

Monkey Bus Pass
Spanish life as viewed by the author of 365 Mas Uno. It’s not my communidad – we are hundreds of kms apart – so I always enjoy reading and comparing the similarities and differences in our lives.

MYTOWN366
A photoblog. Pure and simple. All, or virtually all, set in Phoenix, Arizona. Not sure what caught my eye, maybe it was the bougainvillea of which we have so much over here, but there are some interesting pix, I mean photos.

New Light Through Old Windows
Interesting title methinks, and an interesting mix of blog posts looking at past holidays the author has taken. He’s got at least one other travel blog, so the best thing to do is dive into the site and find something that takes your fancy. There’s often lots of history to accompany the beautiful photos of Greece or wherever else.

Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge
What to say? Quirky :) Either you will like it or you won’t. Obviously I like it. Invariably interesting and entertaining, but also looks at topical serious issues in society.

pix & kardz
A recently discovered blog on my part, primarily (excellent) photos, but always some interesting and thought-provoking text to accompany it. A superior class of photoblog in my not remotely humble opinion.

South of Tonight
Another unique style of blog. No long posts (unlike mine) – but often an alert to something important that we all really should be thinking about. And – doing something about. From Facebook, to pollution, to the pharmaceutical industry, South of Tonight is always in front.

Starting Over
A personal blog which combines photos, humour, books, buildings, food, travel, the serious side of life and, well, just about everything. One of my blog contacts for many years.

The Forage
Some very serious points made on this blog about food, environment, consumerist waste, and well, people – and with great style. Despite the topics, it’s not a heavy blog that leaves you falling asleep. Makes the pertinent points succinctly.

The Vegan Kat
A great source of recipes, and links to other original and interesting cheap/vegetarian/vegan blogs – although not necessarily all of those.

TRAVELING WITH MARGARET
Another blog belonging to the person of a cat. In this case, Cat Mandu, one of Pippa’s newer friends (not that he is ever really friends with cats). This blog has some fantastic photos of amazing trips. I’m busily working my way from the beginning to the current day.

unviajedemilesdekmempiezaconunpequenopaso
Another recent find, well, actually she found me. Una periodista español – a Spanish journalist – who likes travelling. She’s currently (at the time of writing this) in Morocco. How could I not want to read this blog? :D

Vics Pics and More
A blog from someone who has had a couple before, and started this one earlier this year. It’s primarily photography-based but with text telling of her adventures at homes and in different areas of the UK, and has some stunning shots of the English countryside, coastal and river photos, animals, and industrial heritage.

Worldwidecycles Blog
This is probably the odd one out of the whole list as it has nothing in common with the others. As I enjoy cycling, it’s a great way of keeping up with the cycling world via someone’s personal take on it. Oh, and we both like Sean Kelly, so that’s another plus point.

So there you go. Only a baker’s dozen. I do ‘follow’ others, but these are my faves. No doubt I will get unfollowed by all the ones not on this list :D

ETA

1) if you are pining away ‘cos you are not on here, I do need to update it (already!!) so please don’t jump out of the window yet.
2) I know, slightly more than a baker’s dozen now I have added a few more, and probably more to come, but I’ll try and keep it relatively short.

  1. i was about to head over to Pippa’s blog and just noticed this page.
thanks for including pix & kardz! much appreciated!!

you had mentioned Vics Pics and More in one of your recent posts which prompted my first visit there, and the views and vistas are a feast for the eyes, so i keep returning there, too. i second your endorsement!

    and thank you again :)

    • No worries about the inclusion as your blog is def one of my faves :) for all the reasons I said above. Pleased you like V’s blog too :)

I really must edit this a bit though and add a few others. Perhaps that will be today’s task.

  2. Gosh, feel honoured to find myself listed here :)
But, me never being satisfied, would have prefered you’d said friend rather than contact as sounds so clinical!

    • Whinge whinge!! Moan moan!! I deliberately didn’t use ‘friend’ as I didn’t want anyone to feel discriminated against. I’ll try and find a better word to suit you. But not now. Still sewing, and need to start pasta and mushrooms after that :)

  3. Thank you for the kind referral! I had the pleasure of visiting the GIB in the early 90′s and have wonderful memories of that experience… what an interesting place to call home!

    • Hey – it’s a lottery I think. You can have similar interests to people and yet it doesn’t work. You can get readers who don’t have any of the same interests for whatever reason. Blogging is so unpredictable!!
